Fat Grafting

What is Fat Grafting?

Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer, is a procedure done to transfer excess fat from various areas of the body to areas of the face that are lacking volume. Fat grafting is a safe and long-lasting option for those looking for natural-looking results.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Those who wish to restore youthful fullness to their face can often benefit from this procedure. Ideal fat grafting candidates will have available donor sites from which fat can be taken. Individuals should also not have any circulatory problems, and be non-smokers. A consultation with Dr. Ehrmantraut can help to best determine if this procedure is right for you.

The Procedure

Facial fat grafting can be done to correct facial creases, laugh lines, smile lines, and crow’s feet. It can also be used to add volume to sunken areas of the midface, and add plumpness to the lips.

During the procedure, fat will be harvested using liposuction from areas with excess fat such as the abdomen or thighs. Then, the harvested fat will be processed and placed into small syringes. The processed fat will then be injected into the targeted treatment area(s). Multiple injections may be necessary to achieve optimal results.

Recovery

Following fat grafting to the face, patients may experience temporary bruising and swelling. The survival of the transferred fat and the longevity of results will depend on how the fat was harvested and purified. Dr. Ehrmantraut has extensive experience and skill performing fat grafting, with patients enjoying long lasting results.
